Instructions
1. Starting the Game
-
When you start Retro Bowl for the first time, you are given control
of a low-ranked football team. Your goal is to build the team into a
championship-winning franchise.
-
You’ll begin by naming your team and getting introduced to the
basics of team management, including signing players and managing
staff.
2. Managing Your Team
-
Roster: You can view and manage your team roster
from the main menu. Players have different ratings based on their
performance in areas like speed, strength, and stamina.
-
Signing Players: To improve your team, sign free
agents or draft new players. Keep an eye on your salary cap, as you
can only afford a certain number of top-tier players.
-
Upgrading Facilities: Improve facilities like your
stadium, training, and rehab centers to keep your team in top shape.
This helps boost player morale and recovery times.
-
Player Morale: Players have morale levels, which
impact their performance. Keep your team happy by winning games and
managing them well off the field (responding to press questions,
handling issues with individual players, etc.).
3. Playing a Game
-
Offense Control: You are responsible for
controlling your team's offensive plays. During each game, you will
run a series of downs to try and score touchdowns.
Offensive Plays:
-
Passing: When selecting a passing play, you control
the quarterback. Tap and hold on the screen to aim your throw, and
release to pass the ball. You’ll want to time your pass
carefully to avoid interceptions or incomplete throws.
-
Running: In a running play, swipe to direct the
runner's movement and dodge opposing defenders. Running plays are
great for gaining shorter yardage.
Field Goals:
-
When your team is in field goal range, you can choose to kick a
field goal for 3 points. This is done by aiming and timing the
kick, similar to passing mechanics.
-
Defense Simulation: Retro Bowl automates the
defensive part of the game, meaning you don’t directly
control defensive plays. However, the success of your defense
depends on the quality and strength of the defensive players on
your team.
-
Downs System: Like traditional American football,
you have four downs to advance 10 yards and continue your drive.
Failing to do so gives possession to the opposing team.
4. In-Game Decisions
-
Timeouts: Use timeouts strategically to stop the
clock and save time during critical moments.
-
Play Selection: Choose between passing and running
plays depending on the situation. Passing is more risky but can
result in larger yardage gains, while running is more conservative.
5. Game Strategy
-
Scoring: Your goal is to score as many touchdowns
(6 points) and field goals (3 points) as possible. A successful
touchdown is followed by a conversion attempt, where you can kick an
extra point (1 point) or go for a 2-point conversion.
-
Clock Management: Time is limited in each game, so
managing the game clock effectively is crucial. Use timeouts wisely,
and control the pace of the game to either conserve time or run down
the clock depending on the score.
6. Winning Games
-
After each game, you’ll see a summary of your performance and
receive fan approval or disapproval based on your success. Winning
games boosts your team's morale and fan base, while losing can hurt
your reputation.
7. Advancing the Season
-
Each season consists of multiple games, and the objective is to make
it to the playoffs and eventually win the Retro Bowl championship.
-
Team Progression: As you progress through the
season, your players will gain experience points (XP) and improve
their skills. Use these points to develop their attributes and keep
your team competitive.
-
Staff Management: You also need to manage your
coaching and training staff. Upgrading your staff improves your
players' development and recovery times.
8. Tips for Success
-
Balance Your Roster: While star players are
important, be mindful of the salary cap. A well-rounded team with
good players at every position often performs better than a team
with just a few superstars.
-
Watch the Clock: Learn to manage the clock
effectively, especially in close games. Use timeouts and control the
tempo to outsmart your opponents.
-
Upgrade Regularly: Continuously upgrade your team's
facilities and draft new players to improve your chances of winning
in the long run.
By mastering both the on-field gameplay and off-field management, you
can lead your team to victory in Retro Bowl!
